Upgrade to T1 and Lower Costs

It may seem like a strange concept to upgrade your telecom services and lower your costs but it is quite common.  Many companies have large blocks of analog lines into their telephone system.  The cost of jumping to a T1 seems out of reach when you combine the monthly charge for the T1 and the cost of the hardware needed to accommodate it.  The additional functionality benefits of the T1 are not in question, it is only the (perceived) cost.  That is where the misconception starts.

There is a tremendous amount to save just by making the move to a T1 and changing the way that the regulatory charges (you know, that part of the telephone bill that makes ZERO sense) are applied.  Take for example the company that has 24 analog (plain old telephone service) lines.  The carrier is charging regulatory fees on each individual line.  The most recent bill I reviewed for a customer had $8.15 in FSLC (Federal Subscriber Line Charges) and $4.31 in Long Distance Access Charges for EVERY LINE.  That totaled $299.04 a month just in regulatory fees.  Now take the example of a T1 that my company provides.  The T1 is a single circuit so the regulatory fees don’t get a chance to multiply.  The T1 provides a lot more functionality like DID (direct in dialing) and Caller ID.  The total regulatory fees for that feature rich circuit are $55.25

The moral of the story is that you can upgrade your tired old telephone lines to a new feature rich T1 and save $2,925.60 a year just in regulatory fees.  That hardware for your PBX dosn’t seem that expensive anymore, does it?
